CCS News

Members of the Connecticut Choral Society had a wonderful year celebrating our 30th Anniversary season! Our very special Candlelight and Carols concerts were sell-outs, and featured the talented singers of the Litchfield County Children’s Choir and the world-renowned classical guitarist Jason Vieaux. Our singers and friends are still raving about the special music and spirit of these events.

We held Look at the World, a benefit concert in April for the Jericho Partnership in Danbury, CT.  Our festival choir included singers from area churches and, a special treat, the New York Boychoir.

Our spring concerts, Celebration!, were just as wonderful. Gilbert Mott from the Danbury News-Times agreed, as you can read in his review: http://www.newstimes.com/news/article/Connecticut-Choral-Society-in-a-celebratory-mood-1403902.php

In July, a group of our CCS singers traveled to Australia to join a festival performance of John Rutter’s Mass of the Children at the Sydney Opera House. Our maestro Eric Dale Knapp  conducted the North American Festival Chorus and Orchestra, with Linda Sweetman-Waters on piano. Members of our sister chorus, the New Jersey Choral Society, also sang.

Our 2011-2012 season began with another Look at the World concert, this time for the Good Samaritan Fund of the New Milford, CT, social services, held at the First Congregational Church. Then our two lovely Candlelight & Carols concert in Newtown and Woodbury. We are now beginning rehearsals for our very exciting Spring concert featuring Ralph Vaughan Williams’ A Sea Symphony. More information on the season is forthcoming on the Concerts page of this site.

In June singers will travel to London for The Fire Within, exceptional music celebrating the Olympic ideals. We will share Beethoven’s inspiration through his choral Opus of the 9th Symphony. We will Light The Fire Within, and proclaim the Olympic Hymn, performing other well known pieces associated with the Olympics as we herald the Olympic Games within a month of the Opening Ceremony.

This is a very exciting season -- join us!
